As Pompeii and Herculaneum, the Grand villa at Oplontis (close to the train station of Torre Annunziata) was buried during the eruption of Vesuvius in 79. A few seconds this is the villa Poppaea, the wife of the Emperor Nero, but not really. Surely it is a building of Imperial dimensions, with an Olympic-size swimming pool and beautiful gardens.
The town of Paestum, 100 km south of Naples, is a combination of Greek and Roman elements elements. It was one of the main Greek settlements in southern Italy and still survive three great temples dated to the 6th century BC. Slightly later era tombs are painted with different images, including that of a young man who dives into the water. Has been rediscovered a small town dating back to the 6th century a.d..
